RhinoTech now offers two types of digital heat transfer papers so that you can transfer directly to the deepest of black, blue, the darkets of Indigo, red, orange & other dark garments and fabric. It also prints the whitest of WHITE – no gray tones visible. RhinoDARK (in 2 sizes) and RT SunAngel DARK are the bomb.
These papers also produce cool images when heat transferred to white and light color apparel and an applied Textile Metallic Foil overlay. To add even more depth, crunch the foil and then heat press on top of the design for a interesting effect. The design will pop!
Here is info and the directions on how to digitally print using RT SunAngel DARK (RhinoDARK instructions will follow in the second installment):
The RT SunAngel system includes Transfer paper, Laser Printers and Toners. There’s a printer specifically to offer:
1) FLUORESCENT color toners! This laser printer enables the paper to be printed from the tray and straight out through the back; the sheet doesn’t have to go through a roller-type system.
2) FLUORESCENT WHITE toner that has two white toner cartridges to ensure opacity.
3) Traditional CMYK toners
4) WHITE toner.
This printing system involves a simple, TWO-STEP process using the A/Image Sheet where you will print on the smooth side & the B/Transfer Sheet with a white coating.
Step 1: Print design with color printer on smooth side of A Sheet/Image sheet in a mirror image to apply color. Then run the same sheet through the WHITE printer that will apply the white toner to the design.
Step 2: Marry the A/Image sheet with the B/Transfer sheet in the heat press.
Fold back a corner so that when it comes off press, you can HOT PEEL easily starting w/the corner and pulling back in one smooth motion. Place parchment sheet on top and heat press at 270° w/heavy pressure for 30 seconds.
IMMEDIATELY, PEEL THE B/TRANSFER SHEET OFF OF THE A/IMAGE SHEET.
At this point, you will now see that everywhere there was toner, the White Coating on the B/Transfer sheet has transferred on top of the toner.
Next, we recommend trimming along the edge of the transfer.
Final steps: place dark shirt on press, place parchment sheet on top of shirt and press
shirt for a few seconds to remove any moisture and wrinkles. Remove parchment paper.
Place transfer in position on shirt. Place parchment paper on top. Press at 270° w/heavy pressure for 30 seconds. Remove parchment and let shirt cool to the touch prior to peeling the transfer paper off the shirt.
For maximum durability, you can repress the shirt for 10-15 seconds to make sure that transfer is embedded deeply into shirt fibers. Remove parchment. Voila!

Please, do not sacrifice excellence with a low-cost, lesser value and/or used heat press. If you do, you’re most certainly going to get what you pay for and you won’t be happy. Printing on a curve takes a bit of finesse and can be acquired with some patience and testing. It takes a high quality Heat Press with digital time and temperature controls and the operator’s ability to figure out the pressure needed to apply when heat pressing.
