Digitally print on garments without pretreating.

Printed with SingleJet Opaque™ Heat Transfer Paper from RhinoTech

Printed with SingleJet™ Heat Transfer Paper from RhinoTech

This just in from RhinoTech with regard to a question on whether or not cotton garments needed to be pretreated before digitally heat transferring a design using SingleJet™ Heat Transfer Paper (for use with inkjet printers, especially the recommended Epson 1430).

The answer is, no, PRETREATING IS NOT REQUIRED before transferring a design (unlike when using a DTG system). Using SingleJet II™ (the newest generation) offers an easy process resulting in designs with bright color when printed on white and light color fabrics. You can also print a photo, flat color design text, block graphics or spot colors. Use SingleJet Opaque™ when transferring images to DARK garments and fabric. Color and white will be vivid. Add textile metallic foil and rhinestones so that apparel will have added bling appeal for the customer and increased value for the business owner.

Digital and Screen Printing Products that DEFY SHOP HUMIDITY.

humidity 5 Humidity. We longed for it during the interminable winter; with every*! %!**%!# shovel of snow. But, our memories of desire for the heat have a way of fading when faced with summer-time humidity that invades our shop environments. So, we offer the following on two stellar products that will stand up during the heat and humidity of summer.

THE FIRST from RhinoTech.

It’s RhinoDARK heat transfer paper. This weedless laser paper involves a two-step process comprised of using an A Sheet (printed with a laser printer) and a B sheet. Because the A Sheet has a polyester coating, it will not expand and contract in humid environments. As a result, you’ll get consistent quality and produce transfers that will pop with brilliant color and intense white on all DARK apparel and fabrics. This paper can be applied to 50/50 blends, 100% Cotton and Polyester fabric such as Dri-Fit.

Use RhinoDARK with OKI Data laser printers from RhinoTech that include: the 920 WT, 711 WT and c831-TS http://rhinotechinc.com/digital-transfer/laser-printers

THE NEXT HUMIDITY-DEFYING PRODUCT from RhinoTech.

In textile screen printing, a Film Positive is required for each color in a design that is going to be screen printed. For example, if you have a 6 color project, you will need 6 Film Positives; one screen frame for each color in the design.

To ensure that your Film Positive material doesn’t expand or contract, we recommend RhinoJet (for inkjet printers) instead of paper transparencies. This product is waterproof clear film with a polyester-coating to make it stable under humid conditions. Its formulation makes sure that it will dry on contact with both Pigment and Dye based inks.

We also encourage you to take a moment to read The Effects of Humidity on Screen Printing by John Levocz. This article recently appeared in the June 24, 2015, issue of Printwear. In it, the author offers screen printers a few reminders on how to prepare for and handle the stickiness of the season.

It’s that time of year again when everything in your shop seems to be wet due to high humidity, and this humidity can cause several problems in your shop that you should be aware of.

First, screens will take a lot longer to dry after degreasing and also after coating with emulsion. Do not rush the coated screens. Make sure they are dry all the way through the emulsion coating. If they are tacky to the touch, they need more drying time. Rushing the screens can cause pinhole and emulsion washout issues.

Second, when using plastisol inks, the moisture in the garments need to be driven out before the curing process can start to take place. Shops with smaller dryers and very little airflow can expect to see their cure time increase, so it is important to re-check your cure before blaming the ink.

If you have questions about RhinoDARK heat transfer paper and RhinoJet Film Positive Material, please feel free to contact RhinoTech at 651-686-5027 x2 and info@rhinotechinc.com.

This is RhinoDARK Heat Transfer Paper!

In this second installment, RhinoTech showcases RhinoDARK Heat Transfer Paper.

THIS is RhinoDARK!

THIS is RhinoDARK!

This paper offers another amazing way to transfer images with a laser printer to transfer directly to all dark apparel and fabrics. It is also available in two sizes: 8.5″ x 11″ and 11″ x 17″. And, it’s compatible with the  RT SunAngel Printers.

The RT SunAngel printers offer:
1) FLUORESCENT color toners! This laser printer enables the paper to be printed from the tray and straight out through the back; the sheet doesn’t have to go through a roller-type system.
2) FLUORESCENT WHITE toner that has two white toner cartridges to ensure opacity.
3) Traditional CMYK toners
4) WHITE toner.

To apply more bling and dimension to your prints, easily add Rhinestones and Textile Metallic Foil. Crunch the foil, lay it on the heat transfer, repress, and your design will be eye-popping.

Here is info and the directions on how to digitally print with RhinoDARK:

RhinoDARK transfer media is used as a set comprised of an ‘Image Sheet’ (A Sheet) and a ‘Transfer Sheet’ (B Sheet). Please follow the steps below for best results:

1. Place image sheet into the manual sheet feed of the RT SunAngel printer, smoothest side up (please note this is the coated side of the sheet).
2. Set the printer to print from the ‘Multipurpose Tray’ and set paper type to ‘Medium Light’ and set size to A4.
IMPORTANT: Remember to create the image in reverse to ensure it looks correct when transferred to the garment.
3. Print the image.
4. Once image is printed, place the transfer sheet on top of the print with the white (adhesive coated) side down – the image and the adhesive should be face-to-face.
5. Fold a small corner of the transfer sheet over prior to pressing as this will make it easier to peel apart after pressing.
6. Press the two sheets together using a heat press at 250 – 270°F for 30-45 seconds with high pressure.
7. upon opening the press & while hot – immediately peel the transfer sheet away from the image sheet quickly and evenly, peeling in a smooth, continuous motion.
8. Discard the used transfer sheet.
9. Trim the edges away from the image sheet to help ensure that no excess adhesive sticks to the garment.
10. Position the transfer sheet (print side down) onto the garment and press using a heat press at 250 – 270°F for 30-45 seconds using high pressure.
11. Remove the garment from the heat press and allow to cool.
12. Once the garment is cooled to the touch, carefully peel away the transfer sheet and the image will remain on the garment.
13. A final step is to apply a finishing paper to the printed area of the garment and press again for 15 seconds to provide a durable smooth finish.

Artwork Requirements Recommended by RhinoTech

For best results, it is recommended that solid colors only be used in the artwork. We also recommend printing white toner over all the color for greater opacity when printing on DARK garments.

Please – invest in a high quality heat press.

Including and using the highest quality heat press, as possible, along with your Digital Heat Transfer System is a must, especially when you want your  digitally printed products to be worthy. Please, do not sacrifice excellence with a low-cost, lesser value and/or used heat press. If you do, you’re most certainly going to get what you pay for and you won’t be happy. Instead, follow the best business practice that is to purchase the highest quality press as possible. We guarantee that you won’t regret it.

A Heat Press for CAPS/HATS from RhinoTech

IMG_0558Printing on a curve takes a bit of finesse and can be acquired with some patience and testing. It takes a high quality Heat Press with digital time and temperature controls and the operator’s ability to figure out the pressure needed to apply when heat pressing. That’s why we always suggest that you purchase a test pack of paper. During the practice phase, you’ll be less stressed because you are just TESTING. You’ll be figuring out the differences between “low, medium and heavy pressure”, paper peeling techniques and more.  In the step-by-step instructional video above that also includes a how-to on using Textile Metallic Foil, please observe the technique used to produce perfect hats. You’ll discover that it’s important to develop a feel for the “touch and pressure” needed to print on a curve. This will be especially significant when printing on multi-paneled hats with seams.

So…let’s drive it home! Yes, it’s absolutely essential that a digital printing set-up include a reliable heat press with accurate time, temp and pressure results. So…be patient. Practice and test.  And, don’t worry, you will develop the touch to ensure that your creativity, hard work and passion will be reflected in your products.

NEED HELP COMING UP WITH A REUNION T-SHIRT SLOGAN?

We are in the heart of reunion t-shirt printing season. And, that’s fortunate for all of us in the digital, screen and graphic printing businesses who will produce short or long-run t-shirt projects for family, high school or other gatherings in the next several months. Whether you operate from a part-time garage-based printing business, a store-front location, an embroidery + digital printing shop, a silk screen printing commercial enterprise or digital printing company – everyone reaps the benefits. And, the graphic designers are pretty excited to unleash extreme, comic reunion designs and slogans on the masses.

We are the people our mom warned us about.laughing imagelaughing image

In their blog, bluecotton.com offers some pretty F.U.N.N.Y. reunion slogans. Click HERE to read their suggestions for some good one-liners. And, then there are these from Zazzle.com.  Both companies offer a place to start when needing shirts with comic slogans. And, one tip. With children and tweens in the mix, remember to check on the slogan rating before authorizing the printing order.

Reunion Survivor (courtesy of gatheredagain.com)

The survivors and ‘thrivers’ of reunion-land are all the t-shirt printers and their behind the scenes support; companies like RhinoTech who manufacture and distribute digital, screen and graphics equipment including digital heat transfer papers and printers and screen cleaning products, washout booths, filtration systems and more. Because of eco-friendly cleaning products, for example, screen frames are cleaned quickly and fully for reuse to enable the printers to continue to produce millions of reunion t-shirts on a nation-wide basis.

Those that also thrive and are winners are all the customers who now have an idea of how to get their shirts printed with some unconventional reunion slogans and/or how and where to have their own creative one-liners come to life on a t-shirt. To everyone involved in reunion season, keep on laughing! kid laughingkid laughing 2

In doing so, he explains, “creativity and innovation are enhanced, helping business to thrive and survive”. He encourages all in our industry and those entering it to venture out and investigate possible opportunities to the fullest within the realm of the “new normal” in printing. This involves either merging digital printing technology into traditional printing/embroidery, art studio businesses etc. and/or when starting-up as a stand-alone.
