Digitally print on garments without pretreating.

Printed with SingleJet Opaque™ Heat Transfer Paper from RhinoTech

Printed with SingleJet™ Heat Transfer Paper from RhinoTech

This just in from RhinoTech with regard to a question on whether or not cotton garments needed to be pretreated before digitally heat transferring a design using SingleJet™ Heat Transfer Paper (for use with inkjet printers, especially the recommended Epson 1430).

The answer is, no, PRETREATING IS NOT REQUIRED before transferring a design (unlike when using a DTG system). Using SingleJet II™ (the newest generation) offers an easy process resulting in designs with bright color when printed on white and light color fabrics. You can also print a photo, flat color design text, block graphics or spot colors. Use SingleJet Opaque™ when transferring images to DARK garments and fabric. Color and white will be vivid. Add textile metallic foil and rhinestones so that apparel will have added bling appeal for the customer and increased value for the business owner.

BE Courageous. BE Happy. BE Human.

good excellent 2Core ideals for everyone. Core traits for a screen, digital or graphics printing business whether formed or in the start-up phase that will contribute to the worth and success of a business.

This reminder and inspiring by-line comes from the team of women who are Bliss Entourage.  BE was founded by these down-to-earth women (pictured at left) who, early on in their young lives, figured out that there was a vast world of opportunity, adventure, education and global citizenship awaiting them if they chose to take the leap. And, they did. Solo travel led to education of the mind, heart and physical being. They learned and healed from some of their own personal struggles. And, they became even more courageous. And, mindful. And, confident. Finding their paths toward one another through healthy living (with some decadent desserts), nutritional counseling, nursing education, yoga practice, health and fitness, life coaching, meditation, relaxation and more, they now help” guide individuals to live fulfilled, happy, and awakened lives”. Be sure to check out their website.

And, Check Out Their T-Shirts.

RhinoTech printed the BE t-shirts using SingleStep™ heat transfer paper. Used with an OKI Data laser printer on White and Light color apparel and fabrics, this paper is totally self-weeding. And, only the toner transfers resulting in a t-shirt that feels as if it had been screen printed. The results are seen in vibrant, colorful designs and in sharply defined Black and White images. And, we used an RT Swingman – 20 heat press to ensure accurate time, temp and pressure to ensure a beautifully produced item. This heat press is a gem.

BE Courageous. BE Human. Happiness will be Revealed.

Though we advocate for some sort of business plan, we’ve found that it’s generally courage and a leap of faith that is the foundation of a new business. These elements along with exuding happiness, confidence and exhibiting compassion for all human beings helps frame the kind company you want. For others, these characteristics help them decide which kind of company they want to be part of.

Being human is revealed in the way management treats customers and employees. Having the courage to “do the right thing” on behalf of both essential groups is testament to the company make-up. The face of courage shows up when we step out of our comfort zones or out of the business box and take the leap into a new market or expand service streams. For example, adding a digital heat transfer printing system to an established screen, graphics or embroidery business offers an affordable way to grow and meet customer needs. It could be a game changer and a lucrative one, but the unknowns pose uneasiness. Garner courage to take the steps to remain at the top of the game. And, the next leap will be that much easier.

Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you.” Dr. Suess (and, Bliss Entourage)

DIGITAL HEAT TRANSFER SYSTEMS x TWO!

RhinoTech now offers two types of digital heat transfer papers so that you can transfer directly to  the deepest of black, blue, the darkets of Indigo, red, orange & other dark garments and fabric. It also prints the whitest of WHITE – no gray tones visible. RhinoDARK (in 2 sizes) and RT SunAngel DARK are the bomb.

These papers also produce cool images when heat transferred to white and light color apparel and an applied Textile Metallic Foil overlay. To add even more depth, crunch the foil and then heat press on top of the design for a interesting effect. The design will pop!

Here is info and the directions on how to digitally print using RT SunAngel DARK (RhinoDARK instructions will follow in the second installment):

The RT SunAngel system includes Transfer paper, Laser Printers and Toners. There’s a printer specifically to offer:
1) FLUORESCENT color toners! This laser printer enables the paper to be printed from the tray and straight out through the back; the sheet doesn’t have to go through a roller-type system.
2) FLUORESCENT WHITE toner that has two white toner cartridges to ensure opacity.
3) Traditional CMYK toners
4) WHITE toner.

This printing system involves a simple, TWO-STEP process using the A/Image Sheet where you will print on the smooth side & the B/Transfer Sheet with a white coating.

Step 1: Print design with color printer on smooth side of A Sheet/Image sheet in a mirror image to apply color. Then run the same sheet through the WHITE printer that will apply the white toner to the design.

Step 2: Marry the A/Image sheet with the B/Transfer sheet in the heat press.

Fold back a corner so that when it comes off press, you can HOT PEEL easily starting w/the corner and pulling back in one smooth motion. Place parchment sheet on top and heat press at 270° w/heavy pressure for 30 seconds.

IMMEDIATELY, PEEL THE B/TRANSFER SHEET OFF OF THE A/IMAGE SHEET.

At this point, you will now see that everywhere there was toner, the White Coating on the B/Transfer sheet has transferred on top of the toner.

Next, we recommend trimming along the edge of the transfer.

Final steps: place dark shirt on press, place parchment sheet on top of shirt and press
shirt for a few seconds to remove any moisture and wrinkles. Remove parchment paper.

Place transfer in position on shirt. Place parchment paper on top. Press at 270° w/heavy pressure for 30 seconds. Remove parchment and let shirt cool to the touch prior to peeling the transfer paper off the shirt.

For maximum durability, you can repress the shirt for 10-15 seconds to make sure that transfer is embedded deeply into shirt fibers. Remove parchment. Voila!

RhinoTech Shares a Little 411 on How to Build More Internet Traffic.

Courtesy of  Eric Siu, Contributor to Entrepreneur Magazine; CEO, Single Grain & Founder, Growth Everywhere, we share Foster Organic Traffic in a Crowded Internet with These 6 Steps. It’s a quick read that will most likely generate questions, what ifs and how-to’s, but in a good way. Because…. everything that comes after what we’ve learned and introduced will only aid in improving a business vision and image generating increased organic movement toward our websites in, as the author points out, a very crowded Internet.

What IS ORGANIC TRAFFIC?

When you randomly or naturally search on-line for eco-friendly screen cleaning products or how to digitally print on DARK apparel with transfer paper, RhinoTech and a list of choices emerge. This is termed an ‘organic’ search;  a natural search. According to Conductor Blog, nearly half of all website traffic comes from natural search. Based on that information, our quest becomes how to build our presence so that this naturally occurring traffic lands on our sites.

A BIG UNDERTAKING. Rhino Left Facing New

The task of how to drive more traffic to our websites can be daunting. How many blog posts per week? Social media posts per day? The decision to take this on ourselves or implement a robust SEO hand by hiring a professional SEO company/person or marketing team is even larger and anxiety producing. It’s tough to believe that any person or team will truly understand our company and vision in just a few meetings and a couple of days of studying our Internet and social media presence. So…what is the play?

HITTING THE HIGH POINTS

Eric Siu helps figure this out for us by hitting the high points of what all of us should be doing as part of our business marketing efforts particularly regarding: 1) studying the analytics of who our audience is and where they come from, 2) establishing credibility with a solid marketing plan. Remember, it can be altered, but it’s a necessary guideline, 3) It’s important to write and write well. Each piece of content from blog posts to infographics holds an opportunity to convert new customers and raise brand awareness. It really is important that audiences read past a headline of any content that is written/posted, 4) figure out your “key words” and repeat, repeat, repeat, 5) try and format headlines and sub-headings that will induce readers to want to read more, 6) promote what you write/display about your company in Google+ communities such as Screen, Digital & Graphics Printing. Figure out which of your posts/content have generated the most notice and then work that strength.

And, finally,  Quality content,  published consistently, optimized, and aggressively promoted is the key to building links, page rank, keyword share, and readership.

A different sort of energy and framework is definitely required when promoting a brand than for what is needed when creating artwork and printing apparel. But, it is worth it. In the long-term, the pay-off is higher page rank and more natural search traffic to our websites; company visibility is increased and inquiries are converted to customers and orders.

Many thanks for joining us.

While rolling through the Walker Art Center website looking for some cool, innovative gift items, we happened upon this little original gem – a Minnesota Bottle Opener.

ADD A LITTLE SOMETHING, SOMETHING!

At 14 gauge metal, not only is it heavy duty, but the opener also looks as if it would offer an interesting surface in which to transfer an image. A map, the state bird of MN (mosquito), a flower…the imagination can run wild. The finalized design can easily be printed and transferred using SinglePrint heat transfer paper by RhinoTech. It’s a laser paper that can be used to print on multiple types of surfaces such as light color metal, glass, acrylic, plastic, leather, wood and some card stock. Jesse bottle opener 6 19 2014

Starting a Business the Lean Way

business planWhen it comes to starting a business, the path for many people involves carefully charting a course by following the traditional steps of creating a business plan. In an earlier blog article, “So you want to start a screen or graphics printing business”, the steps to beginning/completing a plan were outlined. They included doing market research; defining financial management, sales strategies, responsible organizational and management personnel; how to apply for a loan and more.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

In “Launching Lean” by Daniel Bortz (Money Magazine, page 40, March 2014), the author outlines what this “lean” means. Here it is in it’s entirely. It’s very different than the traditional approach to building a new business. Many will argue its demerits, others will find that this approach speaks to them.

LAUNCHING “LEAN”

Some entrepreneurs are trading in the traditional business plan for trial and error. This methodology, popularized by Eric Ries’s 2011 book, the Lean Startup, is not “rapidly going around the world, ” says Alex DeNoble, head of San Diego State University’s Lavin Entrepreneurship Center.

What Lean Means. It’s a fast-track to launch. Instead of painstakingly researching the market first, you dive into product testing, using consumer feedback to develop a “minimum viable product.” So, if you’re making a game for tweens, have kids play with it, pivot based on their reactions, then test again.

When to Skip It. This strategy isn’t for businesses that need to come out of the gate with a fully formed product, says Jeffrey Bernel of the University of Notre Dame’s Gigot Center for Entrepreneurship. A restaurant, for example, might struggle to establish a customer base if it keeps changing its menu.

How to Do It Right. “The output is only as good as the input,” says Daniel Cohen, director of the eLab accelerator at Cornell University. So, clearly ID your target customer before convening focus groups. And, set an end date for testing so you don’t exhaust resources before you launch.

We appreciate that you are a subscriber and/or an occasional reader! Thanks for your input.

Digital Printing involved in Fashion, Marketing and Survival!

20131120_114023

The image at left is of a paracord bracelet with a metal dog tag. The dog tag was printed with SinglePrint™ by RhinoTech that is an outrageously cool, heat transfer paper for use with laser printers. It can be used to print on multiple types of light color surfaces, such as wood and glass plaques, ceramic, metal, leather, and acrylic. Aside from dog tags, print guitar picks, plates, glasses, mugs and more. The only other essential ingredient is an imagination!

Make a fashion statement. The tags can be printed in color, in any type of design with a beautifully coordinated paracord (that also is available in variety of colors, including pink/black camo).

Create a marketing opportunity. Print and distribute the dog tags on a ball/chain necklace or on a bracelet at trade shows, concerts and all types of community events with your company’s name, address and logo. Wear it out to dinner as a fashion accessory. You will be remembered and so will your ability to offer digitally printed items with SinglePrint™ that will turn heads!

Survival! With paracord and a dog tag, offer a great looking, potentially lifesaving survival tool if in a household emergency or dangerous wilderness situation that demands a big length of lightweight, ultra-strong rope where even the strands can be separated. Need to patch or pitch a tent, harness yourself to tree in a hurricane, create a set of shoelaces, make a backyard clothes or zip line? Need a fishing line, a line to make a fire bow or a first aide tourniquet? The paracord dog tag bracelet will always be accessible.

We want to credit ApeShirt Apparel Printing for printing the dog tags (he’s a master with SinglePrint™!). And, RhinoTech for an ingenious fashion/marketing/safety statement.

For more information on digital printing with SinglePrint™ and all other heat transfer papers, Metallic foil, t-shirt, hat, plate and mug heat presses, laser printers and digital art production software, please contact RhinoTech at 651-686-5027 x 2 or 4; info@rhinotechinc.com. Check out Facebook and youtube.com/rhinotechcompany for training videos and all things digital printing.

Thanks for subscribing!

An addendum: SingleStep™ is rapidly becoming the most requested heat transfer laser paper due to its natural self-weeding capability that transfers the toner, not the background film; for the fact that a final design appears as if it were screen-printed onto the fabric. And it uses a one sheet process to print on white and light colored t-shirts, hats and other products.

To decorate DARK fabrics, SingleStep™ can be used with Textile Metallic Foil to add texture;the color and design pop. This step offers immediate, value-added highlights.

SingleStep ™ can be used on most color laser copiers or color laser printers (both the older low temperature color laser copiers/printers that use fuser oil and the newer high temperature color laser copiers/printers that do not use fuser oil). It will not work on ink jet printers.

RhinoTech will demonstrate SingleStep ™ at ISS/Long Beach, Jan. 18-20, 2013 on Booth 255. Jonathan Monoco of Catspit Productions will be available to share his experiences with this product and other RhinoTech products/equipment.

Learn How To Screen Print Tee Shirts At Home

Here’s a video about a new product made by RhinoTech. I really wish I had a digital thermostat on my heat press because I think it would have helped me out a little in working with this paper but overall I liked the results very much. It’s nice to be able to do a self weeding process in one step rather than having to do the adhesive sheet at a different temperature and the pressing at a higher temperature like most 2 part self weeding heat transfer papers. Now what I want to do hopefully over the weekend is wash some test shirts I did and do a comparison write up for the blog. I think that would be nice to see. Maybe I can do a picture of before and after.

The new video is called, “1 Step Self Weeding Color Laser Heat Transfer Paper.” This…
