We are in the heart of reunion t-shirt printing season. And, that’s fortunate for all of us in the digital, screen and graphic printing businesses who will produce short or long-run t-shirt projects for family, high school or other gatherings in the next several months. Whether you operate from a part-time garage-based printing business, a store-front location, an embroidery + digital printing shop, a silk screen printing commercial enterprise or digital printing company – everyone reaps the benefits. And, the graphic designers are pretty excited to unleash extreme, comic reunion designs and slogans on the masses.
We are the people our mom warned us about.
In their blog, bluecotton.com offers some pretty F.U.N.N.Y. reunion slogans. Click HERE to read their suggestions for some good one-liners. And, then there are these from Zazzle.com. Both companies offer a place to start when needing shirts with comic slogans. And, one tip. With children and tweens in the mix, remember to check on the slogan rating before authorizing the printing order.
Reunion Survivor (courtesy of gatheredagain.com)
The survivors and ‘thrivers’ of reunion-land are all the t-shirt printers and their behind the scenes support; companies like RhinoTech who manufacture and distribute digital, screen and graphics equipment including digital heat transfer papers and printers and screen cleaning products, washout booths, filtration systems and more. Because of eco-friendly cleaning products, for example, screen frames are cleaned quickly and fully for reuse to enable the printers to continue to produce millions of reunion t-shirts on a nation-wide basis.
Those that also thrive and are winners are all the customers who now have an idea of how to get their shirts printed with some unconventional reunion slogans and/or how and where to have their own creative one-liners come to life on a t-shirt. To everyone involved in reunion season, keep on laughing!

In doing so, he explains, “creativity and innovation are enhanced, helping business to thrive and survive”. He encourages all in our industry and those entering it to venture out and investigate possible opportunities to the fullest within the realm of the “new normal” in printing. This involves either merging digital printing technology into traditional printing/embroidery, art studio businesses etc. and/or when starting-up as a stand-alone.
Gregory Markus is the president and owner of RhinoTech, based in St. Paul, MN. Since the company’s inception 19 years ago, Greg, along with his partner, Todd Michaels, V.P./Operations, has charted the growth of RhinoTech into a worldwide manufacturer/distributor of screen, digital and graphics equipment and papers; screen frame GLUE/adhesives, eco-friendly screen cleaning chemicals and equipment, washout booths that help save on water resources, triple-action filtration systems, screen cleaning and recirculating systems, commercial pressure washers, supplies and more.

This guy cracks us up! Dan Danbom is a contributor to Printwear; you can find his article on the last page of the magazine each month. Dan is the laugh master. Self-deprecating and insightful, he takes our everyday world and spins it so that the things that bug us like TOO MANY PASSWORDS are put into non, ledge jumping perspective. He’s definitely the guy to offer a well-deserved righteous chuckle, giggle and snort, fall-down-laughing, LOL guffaw.
As easy as MyZK8o0veeMan62hike.
In Last Laugh (Printwear, March 2014), Dan succinctly nails the password debacle; having to remember 20 passwords (that seems a low estimate for most of us), the fact that he’s probably been hacked anyway, because most passwords are way too easy to crack, and that “because the help desk is a pleasure on a par with kidney stones, many workers simply write down their passwords on a piece of paper and tape it to their computer. While this ensures that no one will forget their password (because they don’t have to remember it in the first place, it can also lead to mischief if unauthorized person access your computer and download, say, a large retailer’s seventy-million credit card records).” Bazinga!
No Password Needed.
Fortunately, you won’t have to remember this code, RCG07, past this Saturday, June 7, 2014. Filtration is Good!
Focused on environmental sensitivity, the company has created a triple-action filtration system to help printers/business owners/educational institutions become and remain stewards of the earth, septic and plumbing systems. The cost of the system is competitive while remaining a dramatically efficient way in which to dispose of emulsion and ink by-products.
Like all RhinoTech Filtration systems, the M-10F offers space saving features to enable it to easily fit underneath a RhinoTech (or most other) Washout Booth and connect to plumbing systems. With the use of compatible RhinoClean Green ² Screen Cleaning chemicals that are eco-friendly and biodegradable, the filtered liquid becomes even more drain safe.
The M-10F screen cleaning filtration system works like this:
- during the screen cleaning process, ink and emulsion flow from the washout booth into the M-10F that has been positioned securely underneath the washout booth.
- The first of two filtration chambers fill with liquid from the booth.
- When the liquid reaches the top inside divider of the M-10F, it transfers to the second chamber that houses an auto discharge pump.
- As the second chamber fills, the pump activates automatically pushing the liquid out of the chamber and through two additional canister filters. At that point, maximum filtration has been achieved.
- And, only then is the filtered water allowed down the drain.
Utilizing an M-10F Filtration System offers an affordable way for any screen printing company to meet their responsibilities to comply with city, county, state, Parrish, township and federal regulations regarding liquid disposal. Home-based studios especially benefit when septic and plumbing systems are kept in tact with a purposeful screen cleaning filtration system!

1. Be creative using printing techniques.
Find out something interesting about your customers: the charities they support or participate in, articles they’ve published etc. Acknowledge an achievement via a thank you letter, the tag attached to their order, a Facebook post that includes your company logo.
2. Embrace change as needed.
Some companies transform themselves 2 or 3 times as they evolve and grow. If you find that your logo or brand is not an accurate portrayal of what you do as your business matures, change it.
is one company in the screen printing industry that embraced a new logo/branding.
Caps International did the same.
Here are others from Business Insider.
3. Find your bliss in screen printing, graphics printing, and digital printing.
Learn and see the latest techniques from the highly creative people who post their printed designs on Twitter, FB, Tumblr and a host of other social media sites. Passion and inspiration will elevate when learning new techniques w/half tones, the ways to print on metal and glass with SinglePrint™ by RhinoTech, cool ways to print spot color and block graphics.
And bliss can even be found when the right combination of products and equipment come together as in clean ‘green’ screen printing products. Transforming a shop and especially a home-based screen printing studio into one using biodegradable cleaning products and filtration systems (powered by RhinoTech) offers a host of positive ramifications for owners, employees and Mother Earth.
4. Give Back.
In good and tough economic times, it’s noble to give back to the community in some form. Exhibitors at trade shows, for example, often times charge $2-$5 for their printed shirts hats, golf towels etc., used as PR and then contribute the proceeds to, for example, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. With a mission to one day cure Type 1, insulin dependent diabetes that affects children through young adults, this foundation gives 90 cents of every dollar to research. Being aligned with that type of organization like RhinoTech offers a way to “give back” and get some great PR shots!
Custom print at Bike Week and donate $.50 for every t-shirt purchased. The ideas are endless!
5. Repeat, Duplicate, Repeat.
For most screen, digital and graphics printers, it is tough to dedicate large sums of money for advertising/marketing. That means that for every dollar directed into advertising and marketing, your brand must count in a very big way. The mantra of marketing is Repeat.
Use your brand/logo on every note, label, letter, tag, brochure, catalog, over-sized business card thank you note and email you send out. It’s easy to make sure that your default signature on business emails also includes your company’s logo, phone #, Facebook, blog and all social media addresses. Anyone who receives an email from you should be able to click on and through to the social media site.
Though you might have a distaste for social media, it is a must in 2014. A personalized Facebook page and these: Pinterest, Foursquare, Tumblr, Google+, Twitter and a host of others located here: Top 15 Most Popular Social Networking Sites | December 2013 that allows others access to your company during a search engine search. Duplicate your message in trade publications that also have e-magazines. This will be a double-pop for your company.
Thanks for reading!
Just like the LBD, GREEN is the new black in the screen printing industry when it comes to choosing eco-friendly, environmentally-sensitive, screen cleaning chemicals. We know that using soy-based and other biodegradable, non-toxic chemicals is good for people, animals, business and Mother Earth. When these products are locally sourced, they are more of a bonus.
The FACTS. Our industry must reduce its footprint. More and more professional and novice printers or hobbyists are searching out ways to be proactive and lessen their impact on our planet. Students of the arts are graduating with attuned, eco-conscious levels and want to begin their careers in settings that are respectful of the earth, it’s inhabitants and the air we breathe. The numbers of eco-conscious apparel companies are growing. Consumers’ who are seeking out organically grown cotton products printed with water-based inks by employees who are paid a fair wage and work in companies that assure their health and safety grows significantly each year. Examples of these types of companies are Contempl8 T-Shirts, Prana and ALO (and a whole lot of others who exhibited during NYC’s Fashion Week).
PROFIT MARGIN. As with any business, the final result is the bottom-line. By incorporating the following, you will save time, money and effort:
1. Generally, you will use less of the eco-product per use as compared to those that are not.
2. Investigate, compare and invest in a screen wash Recirculation System. A recirculation system generally holds 15-20 gallons of screen wash that works to filter out ink pigments, cleaning the screen wash for reuse many times over. Another advantage is that it is a system to move you toward environmental compliance.
3. Take the leap to purchase a dip/soak tank that will hold stencil remover that allows reuse of the stencil remover many times over instead of just letting it run down a drain each time it is sprayed onto a screen in the washout booth.
4. Invest in Filtration System like the M-10F powered by RhinoTech. You will be infinitely grateful that you chose to purchase this system and it’s much less expensive that a plumber! Emulsion is a thick substance and you do not want to take the chance of clogging drain pipes and septic fields. Additionally, this system will help insure compliance with local, Parrish, township, state and federal rules governing what goes down the drain.
5. INVEST in a heavy duty, 1500 A or Pressure Washer or a lighter duty, commercial model like the RS390AR – both from RhinoTech! With these systems, you save by not having to replace homeowner – type units every 6 months – 1 year; you will speed up screen cleaning/reclaiming efforts and, again, save lots of money to spend on other screen printing equipment, supplies and accessories.
6. 20” x 24” aluminum screen frames with 110 mesh range in price from $22-26. A printer’s goal is to distribute these costs over many projects; for example, if the printer can use the screen for 25 different jobs, the cost per screen per job equals $1. This is the ultimate reason why properly taking care of screen frames for long-term reuse is a vital business practice.
There are a variety of pressure washers on the market today. From household units that last about 150 hours to others like the 1500A from RhinoTech, there is much decision – making required whether investing $100 or $7,000.The thing is, you need this essential piece of screen cleaning equipment if you plan to reclaim/reuse your screen frames. The outdoor hose just won’t cut it, especially if you’re cleaning multiple screens per day. And, unless you have a constant and endless revenue stream, you are going to want a pressure washer that will last for many years. The video product review offers a great overview of what will you get when you invest in a quality machine. Yes, it’s an investment, but one that you won’t regret. The pay-off will be your bottom-line profit. Enjoy.
The video is a full-on, product review by Catspit Productions of the RhinoClean 1500A Heavy Duty Pressure Washer. But…watch at your own risk since you’ll definitely want one of these gems after seeing it in action. RhinoTech offers FREE SHIPPING (as always in contiguous U.S.) on orders of $50+!
