Printed with SingleJet™ Heat Transfer Paper from RhinoTech
This just in from RhinoTech with regard to a question on whether or not cotton garments needed to be pretreated before digitally heat transferring a design using SingleJet™ Heat Transfer Paper (for use with inkjet printers, especially the recommended Epson 1430).
The answer is, no, PRETREATING IS NOT REQUIRED before transferring a design (unlike when using a DTG system). Using SingleJet II™ (the newest generation) offers an easy process resulting in designs with bright color when printed on white and light color fabrics. You can also print a photo, flat color design text, block graphics or spot colors. Use SingleJet Opaque™ when transferring images to DARK garments and fabric. Color and white will be vivid. Add textile metallic foil and rhinestones so that apparel will have added bling appeal for the customer and increased value for the business owner.

Core ideals for everyone. Core traits for a screen, digital or graphics printing business whether formed or in the start-up phase that will contribute to the worth and success of a business.
This reminder and inspiring by-line comes from the team of women who are Bliss Entourage. BE was founded by these down-to-earth women (pictured at left) who, early on in their young lives, figured out that there was a vast world of opportunity, adventure, education and global citizenship awaiting them if they chose to take the leap. And, they did. Solo travel led to education of the mind, heart and physical being. They learned and healed from some of their own personal struggles. And, they became even more courageous. And, mindful. And, confident. Finding their paths toward one another through healthy living (with some decadent desserts), nutritional counseling, nursing education, yoga practice, health and fitness, life coaching, meditation, relaxation and more, they now help” guide individuals to live fulfilled, happy, and awakened lives”. Be sure to check out their website.
And, Check Out Their T-Shirts.
RhinoTechprinted the BE t-shirts using SingleStep™ heat transfer paper. Used with an OKI Data laser printer on White and Light color apparel and fabrics, this paper is totally self-weeding. And, only the toner transfers resulting in a t-shirt that feels as if it had been screen printed. The results are seen in vibrant, colorful designs and in sharply defined Black and White images. And, we used an RT Swingman – 20 heat press to ensure accurate time, temp and pressure to ensure a beautifully produced item. This heat press is a gem.
BE Courageous. BE Human. Happiness will be Revealed.
Though we advocate for some sort of business plan, we’ve found that it’s generally courage and a leap of faith that is the foundation of a new business. These elements along with exuding happiness, confidence and exhibiting compassion for all human beings helps frame the kind company you want. For others, these characteristics help them decide which kind of company they want to be part of.
Being human is revealed in the way management treats customers and employees. Having the courage to “do the right thing” on behalf of both essential groups is testament to the company make-up. The face of courage shows up when we step out of our comfort zones or out of the business box and take the leap into a new market or expand service streams. For example, adding a digital heat transfer printing system to an established screen, graphics or embroidery business offers an affordable way to grow and meet customer needs. It could be a game changer and a lucrative one, but the unknowns pose uneasiness. Garner courage to take the steps to remain at the top of the game. And, the next leap will be that much easier.
Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is youer than you.” Dr. Suess (and, Bliss Entourage)

Humidity. We longed for it during the interminable winter; with every*! %!**%!# shovel of snow. But, our memories of desire for the heat have a way of fading when faced with summer-time humidity that invades our shop environments. So, we offer the following on two stellar products that will stand up during the heat and humidity of summer.
THE FIRST from RhinoTech.
It’s RhinoDARK heat transfer paper. This weedless laser paper involves a two-step process comprised of using an A Sheet (printed with a laser printer) and a B sheet. Because the A Sheet has a polyester coating, it will not expand and contract in humid environments. As a result, you’ll get consistent quality and produce transfers that will pop with brilliant color and intense white on all DARK apparel and fabrics. This paper can be applied to 50/50 blends, 100% Cotton and Polyester fabric such as Dri-Fit.
In textile screen printing, a Film Positive is required for each color in a design that is going to be screen printed. For example, if you have a 6 color project, you will need 6 Film Positives; one screen frame for each color in the design.
To ensure that your Film Positive material doesn’t expand or contract, we recommend RhinoJet (for inkjet printers) instead of paper transparencies. This product is waterproof clear film with a polyester-coating to make it stable under humid conditions. Its formulation makes sure that it will dry on contact with both Pigment and Dye based inks.
We also encourage you to take a moment to read The Effects of Humidity on Screen Printing by John Levocz. This article recently appeared in the June 24, 2015, issue of Printwear. In it, the author offers screen printers a few reminders on how to prepare for and handle the stickiness of the season.
It’s that time of year again when everything in your shop seems to be wet due to high humidity, and this humidity can cause several problems in your shop that you should be aware of.
First, screens will take a lot longer to dry after degreasing and also after coating with emulsion. Do not rush the coated screens. Make sure they are dry all the way through the emulsion coating. If they are tacky to the touch, they need more drying time. Rushing the screens can cause pinhole and emulsion washout issues.
Second, when using plastisol inks, the moisture in the garments need to be driven out before the curing process can start to take place. Shops with smaller dryers and very little airflow can expect to see their cure time increase, so it is important to re-check your cure before blaming the ink.

We’re not sure why the heat press is often undervalued as part of a Digital printing equipment set-up. In fact, it is a key piece of the pie, because of 3 critical factors to ensuring the absolute best, final products. They are: PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE and TIME. And, that’s why we can’t stress enough the value of investing in a great performing heat press.
Presented in this step-by-step video is the RT Swingman 20 with a platen size of 16” x 20”. The RT Swingman 25P with a platen dimension of 20” x 25” is also an excellent option in the high-quality/affordability department. Both systems are offered by RhinoTech.
Features of the RT Swingman include these DIGITAL CONTROLS:
ON and OFF switch is easily accessible in front of system.
A digital TIMER with alert that can be programmed for up to 99 minutes.
The PRESSURE reading sensor that with these settings: 1-3 for light pressure, 4-6 for medium and 7-9 that offers the highest pressure setting (KEEP A LOG OF THE PRESSURE SETTINGS YOU USE FOR SPECIFIC CUSTOMER PROJECTS, SO REPEAT PROJECTS WILL BE A BREEZE).
TEMPERATURE setting that can be digitally set for up to 450 degrees F or 232 C.
Additional cool elements:
Touch Screen with easy to lock-in time, temp and pressure settings.
Phenomenal heating element.
Simple Swing-away feature, unlike a pop-up clam shell.
It’s oh-so personal. It’s for the kids. It’s for everyone living with Type 1, insulin-dependent diabetes. And, that’s why RhinoTech has been a 13-year sponsor of Team Michael, part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s annual WALK FOR THE CURE fundraising event.
Held in Sarasota, Florida, on April 18, 2015, RhinoTech printed Team T-shirts using SingleStep™ Heat Transfer Paper and raised funds to help researchers on a world-wide basis find a cure for Type 1, insulin-dependent Diabetes.
JDRF is an exemplary organization. More than 80% of their expenditures directly support research and research-related education. Because of this, a glucose monitoring system invented by JDRF-supported doctors/researchers has profoundly benefited one of our own Team members. This system helps to maintain even blood glucose levels leading to improved and continued good health. For that, we are thankful. And, we are grateful to our Team members and the many other WALK teams, including Coki, our Team mascot (who also received a custom printed t-shirt) who were happy to support Team Michael.

This paper offers another amazing way to transfer images with a laser printer to transfer directly to all dark apparel and fabrics. It is also available in two sizes: 8.5″ x 11″ and 11″ x 17″. And, it’s compatible with the RT SunAngel Printers.
The RT SunAngel printers offer:
1) FLUORESCENT color toners! This laser printer enables the paper to be printed from the tray and straight out through the back; the sheet doesn’t have to go through a roller-type system.
2) FLUORESCENT WHITE toner that has two white toner cartridges to ensure opacity.
3) Traditional CMYK toners
4) WHITE toner.
To apply more bling and dimension to your prints, easily add Rhinestones and Textile Metallic Foil. Crunch the foil, lay it on the heat transfer, repress, and your design will be eye-popping.
Here is info and the directions on how to digitally print with RhinoDARK:
RhinoDARK transfer media is used as a set comprised of an ‘Image Sheet’ (A Sheet) and a ‘Transfer Sheet’ (B Sheet). Please follow the steps below for best results:
1. Place image sheet into the manual sheet feed of the RT SunAngel printer, smoothest side up (please note this is the coated side of the sheet).
2. Set the printer to print from the ‘Multipurpose Tray’ and set paper type to ‘Medium Light’ and set size to A4.
IMPORTANT: Remember to create the image in reverse to ensure it looks correct when transferred to the garment.
3. Print the image.
4. Once image is printed, place the transfer sheet on top of the print with the white (adhesive coated) side down – the image and the adhesive should be face-to-face.
5. Fold a small corner of the transfer sheet over prior to pressing as this will make it easier to peel apart after pressing.
6. Press the two sheets together using a heat press at 250 – 270°F for 30-45 seconds with high pressure.
7. upon opening the press & while hot – immediately peel the transfer sheet away from the image sheet quickly and evenly, peeling in a smooth, continuous motion.
8. Discard the used transfer sheet.
9. Trim the edges away from the image sheet to help ensure that no excess adhesive sticks to the garment.
10. Position the transfer sheet (print side down) onto the garment and press using a heat press at 250 – 270°F for 30-45 seconds using high pressure.
11. Remove the garment from the heat press and allow to cool.
12. Once the garment is cooled to the touch, carefully peel away the transfer sheet and the image will remain on the garment.
13. A final step is to apply a finishing paper to the printed area of the garment and press again for 15 seconds to provide a durable smooth finish.
For best results, it is recommended that solid colors only be used in the artwork. We also recommend printing white toner over all the color for greater opacity when printing on DARK garments.
Whether home or studio based, located in a store front or a commercial screen printing entity, RhinoDARK Heat Transfer Paper and other systems featured by RhinoTech is a way to add-on to your current service stream. Use this digital system as a way to fill-in for your screen printed projects.
